What have we done till now

After around 1 year of not posting new content, we are getting ready to get back.

When we launched the website in November 2017, although in the beginning we received a lot of support and things were going well, we weren’t able to scale on demend. Due to the fact, that the website (made just with WordPress) were not able to deal with such a high traffic and we were not able to deliver content on scale.

We learnt from our mistakes, gathered a team of coders and are currently working on a new platform.

Unfortunately, we will still not be adding new manga for a while… If you were looking forward to seeing new content – we are really sorry for not being able to meet your expectations and hope that new website will be enough to compensate for it.

If you are interested in the website’s development process, what kind of things we are working now and what kind of problems we are dealing with, please be updated since we will be getting back to you regularly once per week.

Here you can take a peek at the current test app under developemnt.

Besides the ability to deliver more content and handle bigger traffic, there will be some additional features such as:

  • Dictionary of words and grammatical constructions that appears in on-click explanations in manga. Thanks to that you will be able to read more detailed explanation and see more example of word / grammatical construction you wil be interested in.
  • Words and grammatical constructions classified according to JLPT level.

18.10.2019 – 4.12.2019

Last weeks we was adding edit feature to manga, manga chapters and finally manga pages.

At this moment everything of it except modification for pages is live. Soon we will add the modifications of pages and focus on uplaoding images to backend and selecting them for manga pages/chapter/manga covers.

23.08.2019 – 06.09.2019

The update for past 2 weeks:

– We created a new email confirmation page.

– Mateusz has  worked on some refactoring.  He has removed the UI folder as it wasn’t really used that much. He has has changed how we handle tokens slightly and started use of proptypes for more rigid testing and to start making eslint happy.

We are now working on migrating the about page into the pages folder and removing some unused things.  We will make it into more static but actually meaningful content copied from old page for now.

8.08.2019 – 22.08.2019

After last 2 weeks:

– new ByePage ( https://mangadoutest.com/logout ) is already in the production

–  the pr changing the word api in backend is merged

– we  started working on dictionary updates, which means that soon we should have a database of japanese words coming from dictionary.

– we started making the admin dashboard but it isn’t finished yet. We hope to integrate the creation page for manga and listing manga into the admin dashboard next week to have a starting place for adding content.

01.08.2019 – 07.08.2019

More updates!

In this past week we got new 404 Page:

https://mangadoutest.com/notfound

We have done some work towards user profile page, which for now is a dashboard, and started working on uploading avatar picture.

There were some small fixes for authentication to backend. Now the login and getting user works, and permanent storage saves the authentication information. There is also small fix regarding the bottom page and small update for login page displaying errors but it is still in progress for backend errors.

The next steps will be start of admin dasbhoard and avatar image upload, and few static pages here and there like the confirmation page outcome.

31.07 – more updates from the past 2 weeks

In the past 2 weeks we were able to integrate quite few changes.

  • Basic login validation is done, making sure that fields aren’t empty and the subscription works as intended. It sticks to the bottom when there is no content and goes at the back of the page if page is longer.
  • The option of not having subscription notice on every page was added and used.
  • Confirmation page for email works from frontend. We still need to create confirmation pages with success notice and failure indication and to do something to resubmit token if first one expires and we might need to add cleaning of not confirmed users after a while. Small style changes were integrated as well.

24.07.2019 – 30.07.2019

The e-mail confirmation is already working and it is possible to set-up an account, log-in and log-out.

There are still some problems, such as the website thinking that you are logged-in when you are not. This is well known bug though and we should be able to take care of it fast.

Thanks to the fact that we changed login form into redux-form, we will be able to add some additional features such as change of style or some animation when there will be a need to wait for server’s response.

We added “partners” again and in this way found another bug 🙂 Authors / partners section is fuctional again and we have content in a database again.
